Communicating in Sign Language

​Introduction to ISL (Irish Sign Language) Continued

Denise Dowling has been an Irish Sign Language tutor for 15 years and was part of the team to successfully campaign to have ISL recognised as one of Ireland’s first official languages in 2017.  In this course you will focus on communication skills of comprehension and production, basic sentence constructions, common phrases and cultural aspects of the death community. You will also develop a novice range of communication skills with the ability to progress onto further levels in the second semester and can discuss how to progress further with Denise on your ISL skills.

Hayley Power, creator of Organic Loose Leaf Tea, invites you to reset and get set for the week ahead with this hour dedicated to taking you from the intensity of the working week and grounding you for the week ahead. Using meditation and crystal sound bath tools, Hayley will encourage the body and mind to align therefore encouraging peace of mind and a positivity of thought, all necessary elements to achieve a successful week in work and in life. Hayley is an experienced therapist and wellness coach, owning qualifications in acupuncture, herbal medicine, reiki and body mind balancing. She has led large corporate groups on retreat for enhancing life skills and self empowerment and is happy to answer any further queries on available treatments.

For anyone who enjoys a competitive and fun board game you are more than welcome to squabble for the title of Scrabble King or Queen on Monday evenings. Our reigning champion and tutor Denise will host the weekly clubs and welcomes all new members to attend for an hour of “memorable” entertainment.

This course covers the foundational elements of photography. We will start by getting to know your camera whatever device it may be. We cover some of the basic technical aspects, and then move on to image making, and composition of different subjects including still life and portraiture in practice, and other in theory. This course also includes practice exercises by using your own camera in class as well as covering basic elements of photography. We have live photo session modules towards the end of the course to bring everything you’ve learned together in a practical manner. One of these will be a workshop and hosted in Cork Podcast Studio.

Your tutor David is a passionate photographer and is based here in Cork.  He has taught this course previously with great success. 

Beginners Bridge

​Anne Marie McSweeney is a unique Bridge tutor in that she is CBAI registered and a former IT teacher. With her profound experience in teaching coupled with her keen Bridge skills she is the perfection option for anyone seeking to brush up their Bridge techniques or improve their existing game. Anne Marie is also known on the Bridge competition circuit, previously winning the Intermediate Pairs at Limerick and regularly partakes in competitions for anyone who would like to further their interest in Bridge.

Beginners Pilates

This is a form of exercise that focuses on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. It is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. You don't need any previous Pilates experience and an exercise mat for the class would be useful if you have one. Our experienced tutor Mark will ensure that you get the best outcome from this Pilates class. 

Senior Pilates

This is a low impact exercise that may benefit your bone health, strength, balance and mobility as you get older. A must for anyone seeking to maintain a level of fitness and opportunity to be mobile

Sharper Brains 

An Alzheimer’s prevention initiative.

The Sharper Brains Series was developed as part of a postgraduate programme in ‘Healthcare Innovation’ at Trinity College, Dublin, to provide awareness, guidance, and hope to those worried about developing Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia in later life. 

 

Scientific research now tells us that in the main Alzheimer's disease can be prevented. And

over the 6-week course, the presenter will provide information on the latest healthy ageing research and lead participants through physical and cognitive exercises, healthy eating plans, meditation and awareness, plus other strategies shown by science to keep our brains sharp, healthy and resilient to Alzheimer's disease as we age

Upcycle Your Kitchen

Join Clio for a 6 week course in which will you learn tips and techniques to joyfully transform the heart of your home. 

 

Clip from "Colour With Clio" is an artist and colour creative specialising in interior decorating and painted kitchens for over 25 years. Clio will give a brief introduction about her work in the kitchen renovation industry here we can discuss what each individual would like to achieve from the course.

We will cover techniques such as how to prepare for the job, finishing paint and primers explained, recommended brushes and rollers for a professional finish. Clio can help you simplify choosing your new colour schemes with colour charts as well as kitchen handles and knobs and deciding between the different metals and styles.
